2 wins at Donington and Class 1 champions completes 2014

Donington Park

The NGMsport and Spanish driver pairing of Javier Morcillo and Manuel Cintrano rounded off another season of the Britcar British Endurance Championship by taking two race victories and securing the class 1 championship for the second time. However the overall championship has eluded the team with an agonising 1 point between themselves and the overall championship title.

After 12 races at 6 different circuits the 2014 season culminated with the annual Donington Park night race with the team needing 2 victories and a dose of good fortune to take the championship.

Their luck almost ran out at the first corner of race 1 when Cintrano collided with the Ferrari of Darren Nelson and although the contact was enough to turn the Ferrari around the damage to the Mosler was minimal and Cintrano was able to take P2 behind the title leading Ferrari of Calum Lockie. With the team's professional driver behind the wheel of the Ferrari there was soon a substantial gap between first and second place.

Manuel Cintrano

Despite the first corner mistake Cintrano drove a solid stint and when the gentleman driver brought the car in for the mandatory pit stop on lap 34 there was a deficit of just 46 seconds between himself and the Ferrari of Lockie. Rejoining the race in 4th place Javier Morcillo set about chasing down the Ferrari and on lap 43 following the Ferrari's own pit stop, the Spanish racer was able to breeze past the FF Corse Ferrari now being piloted by David Mason.

Making his return to the championship after sitting out the last 4 races, Mason seemed to struggle to get onto the pace and soon dropped down the order finishing the race in 5th place having been overtaken six times by the class 1 Mosler. With Morcillo taking the victory the team couldn't have hoped for a better result however race 2 would still require victory with the Ferrari finishing third or lower. The task was made all the more difficult with Mason's recent health problems meaning he would sit out the night race leaving Lockie to drive the race alone for the 5th time this season.

Mosler night race

With race 2 starting in total darkness the field was able to get away cleanly and Cintrano behind the wheel of the Mosler was able to hold second place behind the FF Corse Ferrari. Several lengthy safety car periods kept the Ferrari's lead down but after the pit stops it took until lap 60 for Morcillo to overhaul his fellow professional driver.

Just minutes later Morcillo took the chequered flag 15 seconds ahead of the Ferrari sealing the team's first double race win of the season and a first ever victory in the dark at Donington. The result however was bitter sweet as just 1 point separated the team from the overall championship victory that they had sought.

Mosler pit stop

There was consolation in the fact that the team did everything asked of it and had again worked to the highest standards to secure the required results with only those things out of their control that conspired to keep the victory from their grasp.

NGMsport would like to take the opportunity to thank all their supporters who joined the team on their journey this year.
