Third at Donington and another win at Snetterton
Kemble based motorsport team Neil Garner Motorsport running a Mosler MT900R enjoyed another successful race in the third round of the 2012 Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship at Snetterton race track in East Anglia.
The team with drivers Javier Morcillo, Manuel Cintrano and Paul White qualified in second place on the grid just 1/10th of a second behind the pole position car. The race began with Paul White behind the wheel and a difficult first lap saw him drop to 8th place. However a safety car period within the first few laps gave the team an opportunity for a quick re-fuelling stop; unfortunately this early stop contravened the regulations and the team were awarded a stop and go penalty which put the Mosler to the back of the pack.
So began a spirited drive through the field with Paul White finishing his stint on lap 35 powering the team back up to 6th place before handing over to Manuel Cintrano. The pit stop dropped the team back to 14th place but Cintrano drove a solid stint to get the Mosler back up to third place by the time of the next driver change on lap 51.
This saw Javier Morcillo take over with the team in third place overall but one lap down on the leading Rapier SR2 driven by Michael Millard; however a pit stop on lap 59 saw the SR2 drop down the field handing the lead to the Motionsport Ferrari 458 driven by Pete Storey. Morcillo, who had been closing in on the Ferrari and had posted a personal best time of 1 minute 52.006 seconds on the 62nd lap, was also now promoted to 2nd place
With 30 minutes of the race remaining Morcillo was 34 seconds behind the Motionsport Ferrari and the race was all set for a grandstand finish as the class 2 Ferrari tried to hold off the class 1 Mosler. Unfortunately for the spectators on lap 75 the Ferrari was forced into a late pit stop due to a technical problem which handed the lead to Morcillo who until that point and with only minutes of the race left had been catching the Ferrari at a rate of several seconds per lap.
Morcillo crossed the finishing line on the 82nd lap 1 minute 42.806 seconds in front of the second placed Rapier SR2 taking the class and overall win for an ecstatic team who were able to celebrate their second victory of the season.
Team boss Neil Garner said after the race, “This race we beat the competition with reliability, strategy and excellent drives by all three drivers, an all round team effort which we intend to continue for the rest of the season ”.
