Free Practice 3 results

In the damp conditions of Free Practice 3, John Hartshorne exited the pits cautiously due to unknown track conditions. Unfortunately though, he barely had time to push the car, as a red flag was shown just 14 minutes into the session, so his best time remained at 2min13.5sec. Once back in the garage John confirmed that an LMP2 car had caught fire after going off and hitting the barriers. As the area of the accident was fairly dangerous to other runners, it was decided that a red flag would be necessary. He noted that a curb at Becketts had standing water around it, so one had to be careful not to go off line.

With just 21 minutes left, Free Practice 3 restarted, this time with Steve Keating in the Formula Le Mans. His lap times were consistently fast, completing several in the 2min04ís. He was extremely happy with his track time, this being his second great run in the car. Steve however was blocked by traffic for a few laps and afterwards said that going faster could have been very possible. A second red flag brought the cars into the pits again, meaning Phil Keen was put in the Oreca 09.

Only 3 minutes of the session remained at this point, so Phil could set just one flying lap, a 2min01.9secs, putting the team at the top of the timing sheets for the second time this weekend. These results are very promising for qualifying this afternoon, which shall commence at 2:05pm.
