Spa 1000km - Thursday's news

Neil Garner Motorsport is excited to be part of the well known event of Spa 1000km this weekend, where Intercontinental Le Mans Cup cars will meet the Le Mans Series cars on track for the first time this year.

The team arrived in the heart of the Ardenne forest on Tuesday, to be welcomed by the sunshine of a beautiful setting, before setting up. The drivers arrived in good spirits, impatient to tackle the famous circuit, and more especially the Eau-rouge corner. The Oreca 09 has a new livery this weekend - more of the school bus yellow colour has been added to make the car more locatable once on track.

The first free practice session on Thursday morning gave Steve Keating and Phil Keen their first run in the prototype at the Belgian circuit. Phil produced the 2nd fastest time in the Formula Le Mans class, of 2min15.265secs, just 0.05 seconds off the leader; which placed the team 23rd out of an amazing 55 cars! The lap times hence varied between 2min03secs and 2min37secs.

Later on, the car set out to run for another hour, this time with John Hartshorne driving. Near the end of the session, Steve took his place in the Oreca 09, but was able to complete only a few laps due to a serious accident involving an LMP2 car. The session was red flagged and the team were placed 4th.

Free Practice 3 will start at 11.50, followed by qualifying this afternoon at 16.20.
