Class 1 victory and P2 overall for NGMSport prepared Renault.

NGMSport / Holden Autosport Renault RS01 races to class victory and P2 overall.

The Holden Autosport Renault RS01 took a class victory and P2 overall in an enthralling Britcar Dunlop Endurance race at a sun baked Snetterton on Sunday. After 4 hours of racing the Renault crossed the line just 3.8 seconds behind the winning Ferrari 458, the car performing better than expected despite some minor gearbox gremlins which the NGMSport team had been working hard to resolve.

Nick Holden started the race from P4 on the grid and was able to keep a consistent pace throughout his stint before handing over to partner Andrew McKenna with both drivers completing two stints each.

The Renault led the race in the third hour but once the final pit stops were complete McKenna emerged in P3, 24 seconds behind the other NGMSport car, the Mosler of Javier Morcillo and Manuel Cintrano. With only 20 minutes of the race remaining McKenna's pace was such that he caught and passed the Mosler on the final lap. Meanwhile barely 4 seconds ahead the leading Ferrari of veteran racer Mike Wilds just managed to cross the line before running out of fuel.

Nick Holden. "That was better than expected, we fixed the gear change issues that were plaguing us and overall the fixes we've done have held up and worked as we wanted them to work. The race was entertaining right to the end so you can imagine what it was like in the garage. We knew we had to pull a gap so we needed just a splash of fuel towards the end but we were running out of time because the rules say we can't stop in the last 15minutes".

Andrew McKenna. "The first stint seemed like a long way to the end but the car was good and everything was going well. We were just trying to manage the gap because we thought the Ferrari might have to stop for fuel at the end so we were pushing and pushing and managed to squeeze every drop out of it".

NGMSport Team Manager, Neil Garner. "It's our first proper race with the Renault so we're still learning about things like fuel consumption and tyre usage but the drivers are getting quicker and there is still a lot to learn".
