Silverstone Weekend Review

NGMsport were back at Silverstone at the weekend with the Holden Autosport Ariel Atom aiming to maintain second overall place in the British Dunlop Endurance Championship. With the circuit fogbound until 10AM Nick Holden had a shortened qualifying session to secure P7 on the starting grid but by race start the the skies had cleared and given way to bright sunshine.

Nick went on to drive a strong race and hopes for the overall championship title were bolstered when the title leading FF Corse Ferrari retired midway through the race ending it's run of first place finishes and giving Holden a chance to close the gap to the championship favourites. Unfortunately luck was not to be on the teams side as a failure in the exhaust system melted the fixings for the diffuser resulting in an extended pit stop to re-attach it. Returning to the track well down the order Holden had to work hard to maximise his points tally and at the end of the race he took the chequered flag in a welcome fourth place.

Race 2 resulted in the first DNF for the team as the Ariel Atoms engine threw a rod which then exited through the engine casing leaving the car stranded at the side of the track. The result leaves the team 16 points behind the championship leaders with just the Donington Park night race to come on November 7th which is the traditional final race of the championship.
